I decided to start a blog for a multitude of reasons, but mainly because I felt like I was dipping a toe into God’s purpose for my life without really diving in. (Anyone else guilty of that? Please say I’m not the only one!) I’ve never doubted that He wants me to use my voice to connect with people, but more often than not, I’m distracted from that purpose by the rest of my life, with brief moments of clarity where I realize that I’m kinda missing the point. I figured a blog would give me a virtual “voice” so I can share my experiences while I explore what God wants me to be doing with music.
I would categorize myself as a singer/songwriter…my 12 years of piano lessons basically just means I know how to sight-read well (sorry Mom & Dad!). That said, I did teach myself how to play the clarinet when I was in junior high (just for kicks), and I’m currently trying to find time to learn the guitar. I’ve been singing in front of large audiences since the age of 4, doing both solo and ensemble work in a variety of settings. I have no formal training, but I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with some amazing people and learn a lot from those experiences. Oddly enough, I’m not super enthusiastic about “performing,” although after 24 years on stage, I’m comfortable enough doing it. I AM, however, enthusiastic about singing to (and for) God – stage or no stage; audience or no audience. I just get this sense of peace and closeness and pure joy – hard to describe, but it’s amazing!
On a non-music “note” (I know, I’m a dork!): I have been blessed with an amazing husband, a wonderful family, and awesome friends. I live in northern California, and when I’m not singing, I work in the construction industry as a project engineer. I love to run, garden, cook, backpack, and ride horses, and I read anything with pages – voraciously.
